Marry Like Royalty at TAJ Lake Palace, Udaipur

This 270-year-old white marble palace floats like a mirage in the middle of Lake Pichola and looks dazzling from the shore, making it one of the most private and exclusive wedding venues in the world. Reached by a short boat ride, it was built as a summer retreat by Maharana Jagjit Singh who ruled Jaipur in the 17th century. It has undergone major refurbishment which has gone a long way to restore its palatial feel with marble floors and rich furnishings, making it incredibly opulent and ideal for an unforgettable wedding party. In order to have a wedding at the iconic Taj Lake Palace, guests need to hire the entire hotel exclusively – making it all the more special to have their own private palace exclusively for their wedding party. The hotel is home to 65 beautiful rooms with original royal features and 18 spectacular suites, meaning 166 wedding guests can be accommodated on property. The Grand Presidential Suite being ideal for the bride and groom of course.

During the celebrations, wedding guests will be spoilt with breakfast, lunch and dinner with specially prepared feasts created by the hotels expert team. Food can be enjoyed from Jharokha – an informal all-day restaurant serving both buffet and a la carte from around the world, Neel Kahal – a fine dining option specialising in signature Rajasthani food which overlooks the famous lily pond (ideal for romantic wedding dinners), and Bhairo – a breathtaking rooftop contemporary western cuisine restaurant offering scintillating views of the beautifully lit Palace of the King of Mewar and the sparkling waters of Lake Pichola (for the main event). Amritsagar is the bar and lounge with a good collection of wine, fine single malts and cigars.

The bride and groom can steal a few moments alone, with a special evening aboard the royal barge ‘Gangaur’, equipped with seven rowers, private dance performers and your own private chef. This boat was purchased by the hotel after it was refurbished for the James Bond film ‘Octopussy’, in which the boat and hotel famously featured. The couple can relax further at the hotels fabulous Jiva spa, complete with treatments on their exclusive spa boat, or by the outdoor pool with panoramic views of the lake.

Known as the Venice of the East, the city of Udaipur, with its elaborate palaces, serene lakes, exotic temples and resplendent gardens, has a lot to offer. During a visit, a tour of the majestic City Palace situated across the lake must not be missed. Here, guests can discover the fusion of Rajasthani, Mughal, European and Chinese architecture and marvel its exotic gardens and stunning vistas.
